Be Clean & Green

Reusable bags are a great way to bring home groceries and other goodies without producing any trash in the process. However, there’s some things you definitely don’t want to be bringing home with these green carriers – things like E. coli and salmonella. Yikes! Researchers have found these intruders often contaminate reusable cloth bags. One way to prevent this is to wash your bags in hot water regularly, especially after you’ve been carrying fresh produce or raw meat. I like to toss mine in the washer (with hot H20 & detergent) every so often to keep them nice and clean.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I plan on using some reusable bags at the farmers market tomorrow morning :)

  1. Aunt Pat has these great cooler bags.. keep the food better till you get home.. forget where she got them..she bought them at one of the stores here :)XO

  2. Good post. I’ve heard this too. I just need to be better and take my bags with me. I have some plastic ones…better wipe those down.

Recently I heard on the news that when they did a test of shopping carts. The swabbed the handles and found that 72% of them had fecal matter. Ewh! Gross!!! So, be sure to wipe those down too.

    Have a good weekend!

  3. Good tip, thanks! I always try to use mine and I even have a little push cart I use if I go to a local mart in walking distance.

  4. You always have the best advice! I need to just do a better job of keeping the bags in my car so that I have them when I happen to stop by the store! Love your idea of washing them regularly.
