Yo-Yo Diets

Need a really good reason not to yo-yo diet? When body weight goes up and down, it loosens the elasticity of skin and makes it sag! Not to mention that some studies suggest that extreme ups and downs in your weight may increase the risk for certain health problems like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and gallbladder disease. So for the sake of internal and external well-being, make sure you stick to a healthy diet and regular exercise (nothing extreme) if you’re trying to lose weight, as well as to maintain a healthy weight!

  1. This is a great reminder – it must be so hard on your body to yo-yo! And I’ve got gravity already helping sag that skin, no need to add in bad diet habits :)

  2. yahhhh I can’t diet, it’s just not in my range of abilities =) I feel dumb anyway because I know the best and most natural thing is to not overeat and most importantly exercise. i did one diet once with a psychiatrist that I worked for – he was doing preliminary research for a diet he was creating called “the Cups Diet” – he would take your info and do this math and then determine how many “cups” you could eat during the day, and all these foods had all these measurements/points to keep track of. Oh my goodness…well anyway, he didn’t take in to consideration that I was running and so I felt like crap – then I stopped. That’s been my only experience with a diet! Aaaaand, I just wrote a book.

  3. So true… I see so many people (mainly women) go on these crash diets for a special event and then shortly after, they are in worse shape then before they started. It’s so unhealthy!

    Thanks for posting…

    XX!

  4. Luckily I don’t have a weight problem… I don’t diet, either, I pretty much eat what I want. Hope it stays that way but the older I get, the more careful I need to be, I think…

  5. so that’s why my legs are so wrinkly! LOL just kidding (sorta)

The sad part with yoyo diets is they are promoted so heavily on television and other media. Celebrities promote them and so they are generally accepted by society.

I’ve been on Atkins, South Beach, Jenn Craig, Weight Watchers, and others I don’t even remember…………….I weigh more now than ever before. Now, it’s time to just buckle down and eat right.

  6. I’ve never been into the idea of dieting. Whenever my pants start to get a bit tight, I try to eat healthier and work out a bit more. Saggy skin is incentive enough for people to give up the yo-yo thing! Thanks for the info!

  7. Couldn’t agree more. I had no idea about that weight cycling bit (thank God I don’t get anywhere near weights for fear of one falling on me). But I really do think staying healthy is eating right, wisely and doing at least some form of sane exercise (like walking, running, jillian). Anything extreme is bound to take a toll! And not a toll house cookie!
